Privacy Policy

This is a draft privacy policy prepared for pre-launch review. It has not yet been reviewed by legal counsel and should not be treated as a final, binding document until that review is complete.

1. What we collect

When you use Escape AI, we collect:

  • Account information: email address, hashed password (or OAuth identifier if you sign in with Google), full name if provided.
  • Usage data: chat message counts, token usage, and RAG query counts, used to enforce plan limits and show your usage dashboard.
  • Content you provide: chat messages and files you choose to index for retrieval (RAG). This content is sent to your configured AI provider (OpenAI by default, Gemini if you opt in) to generate responses.
  • Billing information: if you subscribe to a paid plan, payment details are handled directly by Stripe — we do not store your card number.

2. How we use your data

  • To provide and improve the chat, desktop, and IDE products.
  • To enforce plan limits and usage-based features.
  • To send account-related emails (e.g. password reset, email verification).
  • To respond to support requests.

3. Third-party providers

We share the minimum data necessary with the following providers to operate the product:

  • OpenAI — chat and RAG embedding requests, under OpenAI's API data usage terms.
  • Google (Gemini) — chat requests, only if you or your team opts into the Gemini provider.
  • Stripe — billing and subscription management.
  • Resend — transactional email delivery (password reset, verification).

4. Data retention and deletion

You can request an export or deletion of your account data at any time from Settings, or by contacting privacy@escape-ai.org. Export packages are available for a limited time via a signed download link and are automatically purged after expiry.

5. Security

Passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes and never in plain text. Access to your account requires a valid session token. We recommend using a strong, unique password and enabling any available account security features.
